Cloud computing has been around for over 40 years. Technology theorists considered the possibility that the future of computers was in a networked utility design.
It was not until the 2,000′s that cloud web hosting became a possibility. Amazon was among the first to convert their internet hosting platform from an over sized server space to handle occasional spikes in consumer traffic to a cloud network computing method. By having multiple servers worldwide linked together, the servers local to the consumer allow information to be downloaded quicker to them. If the traffic to the servers spikes on a cloud network, the rate of information getting downloaded slows and equals out to every consumer.
From 2008 onwards, there has been further advancement in cloud networks through research by Google and IBM. In comparison to the age of the internet, cloud computing is an old concept but a very young process in action.
It is believed that ‘cloud computing’ was first termed by Ramnath Chellappa in a 1997 lecture.
